Brunch at Sésame

I really enjoyed brunch at Sésame with a dear friend last Sunday. It snowed outside as we sat in this cosy café sipping on coffee, fresh juice and eating bagels.

Sweet Sundays in the Snow

Slow Sundays in Paris. This particular Sunday I felt like the world was in slow motion thanks to the snow and my world felt like it has been cocooned shut so that all the hustle and bustle that makes Paris move was blocked out.

A sleepy Saturday under the snow

“And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.” ~ Roald Dahl ♥

I woke up early on Saturday and ventured out alone into the snow to marvel at the beauty. The small things like this in life are what count.

Everything was so much more peaceful in Paris this weekend under a blanket of snow. The sound of Paris is different, it feels numbed by the snowflakes and it’s as though the whole city is asleep. There are not many things more beautiful in the world than waking up, opening your blinds and seeing your whole street covered in white fairy dust.

A bit of nostalgia for India

I feel very at home in India, and I am charmed by the hustle and bustle, bright colours and warm faces.
Here are a few photos of my first trip in India, just because I am feeling a little nostalgic.

Can you keep a secret? I’ve already been looking at flights back to India, and I have only been back two weeks…. shhhhhh

A special birthday in Paris

in Australia, my birthday falls in Summer so I am still not quite used to the idea of a cold birthday. It never quite feels like I remember it should. Nonetheless I had a lovely day and was very spoilt by my close friends, my J and my family despite them being far. (As soon as the sun comes out here and the temperature rises by about 15 degrees I’ll be able to show you my to-die-for silk skirt my parents got me in India).

J was cheeky and organised me a surprise party with my besties last night. And he revealed his big secret: We are going to Rihanna. I know, I know, I’m a diva… but I won’t hide the fact that I adore Rihanna and I am sure the concert will be incredible! It’s in June. Eep!

My adorable friend Meg, who features very frequently on my blog and vice verca as we are always loitering around together, gave me two very precious gifts. Below, a container for my herbes de Provence and as she is from Denver, a native American dream catcher which I will put photos up of very soon. She posted wonderful photos of my birthday here.

blueberry pancakes and fried pears

blueberry pancakes and fried pears

Meg came around for a birthday breakfast yesterday and I made us my latest recipe: egg-free, almond meal blueberry pancakes with fried pears. If I can say so myself, they are very delicious. Here is the recipe:

1 cup of plain flour
1 cup of almond meal
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1 teaspoon of vanilla
2 tablespoons of water
2 cups of whole milk
5 tablespoons of melted butter (or ghee which is clarified butter and much better for you)

How to:
Mix the dry ingredients
Add milk, water, and vanilla. Whisk together until just combined. Be careful not to over mix – it should still be slightly lumpy. Set aside to rest for a few minutes.
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat until hot. While pan is heating, add butter. As soon as the butter is melted, add melted butter to pancake batter.
Return pan to stove and stir butter into batter.
Cook until bubbles form on the surface. Add the blueberries after putting the mixture in the fry pan. Carefully flip pancakes with turner/spatula and cook until golden brown.

Serve with fried slices of pear and a drizzle of honey. YUM!

“Les petites…”

I bought two items from Les Petites just before Christmas. I fell in love instantly with the “revival” leather skirt and the black silk/cotton blouse with lace trimming.

Les Petites is a lovely French brand because it does classic pieces but they are a little more “edgy” than your average and they can be both dressed up and down.

I am lusting over this top. It’s a good time to go shopping because the sales have hit us here in Paris! Look on their website for more details and follow them on facebook and twitter.

In other news….keep your eyes on our boutique page Cleopatra’s Bling as we will be announcing a giveaway in the next week.

I think the lipstick Russian Red by Mac would be a perfect happy touch for Winter, don’t you think?

This week I’ll be showing you the hand-woven quilt I got in India, it’s so intricate and bohemian! I am smitten.

Baby Doll dress in Winter

Seeing it’s my birthday next week I ordered this dress for myself just before going to India (any excuse really, right?). I try to avoid wearing too much black in Winter.

Day 10 in Pondicherry

Day 10 in Pondicherry J bought me a beautiful beautiful antique box. It has so many little compartments inside for my special jewelry. We bought it off the side of a road from a lovely man. You can see below the stall and the man that sold it to us. He was just so happy and it made me think about all the people that earn so much more than him but are less grateful. This man sent out rays of sunshine to all that spoke with him.

The second highlight of this particular day was the dog family we came across in the street. I wanted to take them home with me. Just look at those faces.

The man you can see below is a milkman. They ride around Pondicherry with little tanks of milk attached to their bikes. It’s so charming.
